Boxing’s Last “Fight”?

Boxings Last Fight?

Saturday May 2, 2015 could be the last “fight” in boxing history. Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather v.s Manny ‘PacMan’ Pacquiao. This isn’t the last fight ever going to happen in the world of boxing. Each of these boxers will fight more people after this, but not on this scale. This fight has been 8 years in the making, and other than the anticipation of this boxing has been dead.

Back in the Muhammad Ali era boxing was at a high. Everyone was a boxing fan, either you loved Ali or Loved Joe Frazier. That was the rivalry back in the day, Ali v.s Frazier. It help that back them boxing was the main sport, NHL wasn’t really at the peak of its popularity, NFL, the Super Bowl era was 15 years in but wasn’t popular yet, only baseball was popular at the time. Not only boxing was popular due to the lack of other sports, but it was actually interesting. Ali wasn’t scared he would fight anybody, he fought Frazier three times, THREE TIMES. Imagine Mayweather and Pacquiao fighting 3 times…. boxing wouldn’t be at a all time low.

It also helps that Mayweather is probably one of the most controversial sports figures in sports. His ‘Money Mayweather’ ego makes him either loved or hated. He is wearing a 25k mouthpiece and people aren’t to fond of that. He almost draws people away with his attitude. He has either drawn people away by taking a long time to fight Pacquiao, or no one wants to watch him always run his mouth and be cocky. He draws all the attention to himself so no one else can gain any fame in the sport. Look at the two heavyweight brothers from Ukraine Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko. Wladimir is one of the most underrated boxers of all time. He is 64-3. That is a great record, and all people do is just focus on Floyd because he makes himself look like a bigger than person. He only fights in may, BRAGS about his talent, people think he arrogant and it tunes them away from boxing.

Both fighters fighting on May 2nd are in their late 30s (Mayweather-38, Pacquiao-36). This fight is 5 years late. Both fighters are on the down slide of their careers, so as soon as the fight is over there is a good chance this would be the last mega fight in boxing not only for a while but, forever? None of these two fighters wont really fight anymore after this. No one can name any big young names coming up, boxing has just lost its popularity. Many things can be blamed for this, UFCs up rising, NFL, NFL, NBA all are at a all time popularity high.

This is boxings last chance to save itself. This is the biggest fight in a LONG time. After this weekend we might not hear boxings name ever again. This weekend could be the death of a sport.
