Phillies off to a Slow Start

Through fifteen games this year the Philadelphia Phillies have posted a 13-12 record. Right around .500 is where most people projected them to be. They have a solid pitching staff, a weak offense, and a weak bullpen.

“This is right where everyone expected them to be. Maybe if they get lucky they can make the second wildcard,” said senior Dan Macduff.

Senior Lou Corgliano, an avid baseball fan had some different thoughts.

“I’m not worried about this team. In 2008 they had the same exact numbers. Also, Ryan Howard had the same number of RBIs and Homeruns. They will probably make another run”.

Brandon Alfonso, a senior, sees the team as young.

“I think the Phillies need to pick it up, they are a new team with new players. Cliff Lee is out there pitching great games and they are not giving him any runs to get the win,” he said.

AJ Burnett has been the most solid pitcher so far with a 2.15 ERA. Chase Utley leads the team in average at .360, and Ryan Howard leads the team in home runs with 5.

It is clear that the Phillies have potential but they will need to get everything going soon to be able to compete.
