The night began with Pharrell Williams, Sean Diddy Combs, Snoop Dogg, Nelly, and Busta Rhymes performing and ended with the East’s Kyrie Irving putting the game away for the East in a 163-155 victory that was the highest scoring All-Star game in history.

In tribute to the city the players wore all types of colorful sneakers and socks, making the game look like a flashy Mardi Gras parade.

The East made it clear from the opening play that they were taking the game serious. On the first possesion Lebron had a steal and a dunk. Which was different because this was far before the defenses usually show up in the All-Star Game.

But all season long the East has been criticized on it’s “mediocraty” in comparison to the West.

The West came out strong though and was leading most of the first half. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that the East really came alive.

It was looking good for the West as Kevin Durant drilled a three to give them a 155-153 lead with 1:59 left. But after Durant’s shot the east shut them out, Paul George made clutch free throws, Anthony hit his final three, and Lebron scored giving the East a 161-155 lead. Then George made two more free throws to close the game out at 163-155.

To many this was a shock. The West was favored and most people felt that they would win easily.

Lebron had this to say after the game “We wanted this game. They beat us the last three years and they had a lot of bragging rights, so to be able to come through being down 18 was huge.”

Irving made 14 of his 17 shots and finished the game with 31 points and 14 assists. He was the youngest player ever to win the MVP title, just two years after he took the same award in the Rising Stars Challenge.

“Irving just went off. He couldn’t be stopped.” said sophomore Izick Flores.

He wasn’t the only player to break an All-Star Game record though.

Carmelo Anthony was on fire and knocked down 8 shots from behind the 3 point line. He broke the previous record, 6 threes, held by Mark Price and Lebron James.

Blake Griffin tallied 38 points a personal best in an All-Star Game. While doing so Griffin made a record setting 19 field goals. Most of which were dunks, 10 of them to be exact. He actually had eight dunks in the first 11 minutes.

The West as a team even broke a record. The West chucked up an all time high for an All-Star Game 56 threes. Now granted they made 16 of them (which was also a record). Even with making the 16 threes, they only shot 28.6 % from behind the 3 point line which is pitiful for it being an All-Star Game.
