The Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics

The colors gold, bronze, and silver never had such significance.

The Olympics: a time of peace and celebration. It is one of the only events that brings together all the countries together for a good cause, not war. The olympics is when countries get together and compete in sport activities for medals.

After every Olympics they count up who won the most medals and it determines the placement of each country. Win or lose people participate in watching and playing in the Olympics because it is such a great time for the world to come together.

However, this year’s Winter Olympics had been a mess. Taking place in Sochi, Russia, the international event has been surrounded by threats and bomb attacks, causing many to express concern about competing or even just attending to support their country.

Russia worked hard to try to eliminate much of the negative press surrounding the nation. Reports claimed that policy forces were removing stray dogs because they were harming humans around the area. To top that, the Winter Olympics, which requires an adequate amount of snow for the events to take place, had to deal with unseasonable hot temperatures. To compensate, the Olympic hosts have had to make snow, a process that can cause choppy conditions that can be dangerous to the athletes.

A lot of athletes competing in it are concerned with the environment because they are putting their lives at risk on some of these events because of how bad the snow is.

Shaun White, who is arguably one of the best snowboarders in the world, wiped out during the half pipe. In fact, he ultimately chose not to participate because of the rough snow.

The U.S.A has been dominating the Olympics since they started back up in the 1800s and are still continuing down that route today. They have been leading in medal counts and look to continue that path to represent our country.

This year has been tough because the Russians are in first place and have been preparing for this event for along time and hope to carry out their plans to beat the Americans.

However, students and staff are still hopeful that American athletes will come out on top.

“U.S.A will win because we have the best talent in the world and always will,” said physical education teacher Gregg Silvesti.

USA often has strong teams because they have so many athletes to choose from. The more talent a country has, the more depth they can go in on making a roster.

“USA will come on top because they are always on top and it is our home country,” said junior Jonathon Triboletti.

Not many countries can say they are going to win because its so difficult to bet against the United States. They have to the best coaches and trainers in the world and athletes to work with. A lot of athletes do it for fun and have experience, but the United states wants the gold and it is hard match against that.
