NFC and AFC Playoff Picture through Week 15

NFC and AFC Playoff Picture through Week 15

With the regular season coming to a close, teams are looking for those final spots in the playoffs. As teams are being knocked out of playoff contention, there are a few teams that are still in the hunt. Then you have teams that already secured their spot to play in January.

With time running down, the teams in the hunt are hoping to squeak by. The playoffs have a different atmosphere than the regular season. On any given Sunday, your team could be the first eliminated from the playoffs.

In both Conferences this year, there is only one team each who gets a bye week, unlike other years where it was two. Also, there is one more team added into the playoffs for each conference. So that means there will be three wildcard games played instead of two.

The fight to secure the final spots in the playoffs is going to go down to the wire. These next two weeks will predict the outcome of the regular season. The NFC and AFc this year has a lot of good teams, so it is going to be an eventful playoff season for both conferences.

The top teams in the NFC are as followed:

1. Green Bay Packers (11-3)
Green Bay has been as dominant as ever by running through their opponents. Aaron Rodgers is having another standout season by throwing for a 69.6 completion percentage, 3,828 yards, 40 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions. He is on the path for securing the number one seed in the NFC.

2. New Orlean Saints (10-4)
New Orleans is one game away from clinching their division for the fourth straight year in a row. They have a top three defense in the league with allowing 306.43 yards per game and 21.21 points per game. Trey Hendrickson has been having a breakout year leading the Saints and NFL in sacks with 12.5. This Saints defense is a tough one to play against.

3. Seattle Seahawks (10-4)
The Seahawks started out hot this year with Russel Wilson having an MVP year. He was lighting up the league while leading that high powered offense. It started a little downhill when there defense couldn’t stop any opposing teams. Wilson ended up bringing it back and now they sit with the number three seed.

4. Washington Football Team (6-8)
The Football team is a bit of a shock to most fans being so high up in the seedings. The reason for that is the division they are in is the worst in football, with not one team having a positive record. Washington has a very good defense with an amazing front 7. The rookie Chase Young is having a stellar season recording 5.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and one defensive touchdown.

5. Los Angeles Rams (9-5)
With the Rams having a 9-5 record they are still not out of taking the division from the Seahawks. Their defense has been playing at a high level most of the year starting with their front seven. Aaron Donald is tied with most sacks in the league at 12.5, the most dominant pass rusher in the game. They took an upset loss to the 0-13 jets, but they are still not out of the running for a top seed.

6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-5)
Before the season kicked off, Tom Brady decided to leave New England to join the bucs. He brought Rob Gronkowski out of retirement, and helped bring Antonio Brown back as well. They were the best team on paper, but they are now sitting at 9-5, second in their division. They suffered some bad losses, but Tom Brady doing Tom Brady things helped them reach 9-5 and currently holding a playoff spot.

7. Arizona Cardinals (8-6)
Arizona is sitting at the seventh seed in the conference while being third in their division. Second year qb Kyler Murray is having a great season with the addition of Deandre Hopkins. They just came off their latest win against the Eagles to help them inch farther away from being eliminated.

The top teams in the AFC as followed:

1. Kansas City Chiefs (13-1)
The Chiefs are the clear powerhouse of the AFC, and could be argued the best team in the NFL. With Patrick Mahomes as their franchise quarterback and the complimentary pieces with him, they are the team to beat. Travis Kelce is clearly having another great year with recording 98 catches, a little over 1300 yards, and 10 touchdowns. This team is gonna be a tough one to stop moving forward into the postseason.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers (11-3)
Pittsburgh has been cleaning house through the regular season so far until they have hit a roadblock of 3 straight losses. They were on fire after going 11-0 to start off the season but then suffered some bad losses to the Washington Football Team, Buffalo Bills, and the Cincinnati Bengals. While suffering two losses in a row, T.J. Watt is still a force to be reckoned with. He has recorded 13 sacks and 47 total tackles. Going down the stretch, Pittsburgh doesn’t want to be losing going into the playoffs.

3. Buffalo Bills (11-3)
The Bills have turned their historically bad franchise around with a chance to secure the division since 1995. WIth Josh Allen having a great season, the new addition to there team has proved to be fruitful. Stefon Diggs, traded from the vikings, is havinga a career year with 1,314 yards, 111 receptions, and 5 touchdowns. The bills are having a great season, but they are hoping it can translate into the playoffs.

4. Tennesse Titans (10-4)
The Titans have been a mediocre team for a while until teh rise of Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill, and A.J Brown. Derrick Henry is the backbone of teh titans with having another incredible season. He is currently on pace to have 2,000 rushing yards which only has been done by 7 other people. If Derrick Henry and the Titans stay hot, they could be a real threat in the playoffs.

5. Cleveland Browns (10-4)
The Browns are a historically bad franchise, but the emergence of Kevin Stefanski and Baker Mayfield have brought them to a 10-4 record. They have not made a playoff game since 2002, so teh question is can Stefanski and Baker break the 18 year drought. The run game has been beneficial to Mayfield in a big way because it has been letting him throw less in games. This Browns team is doing everything they can to end the drought.

6. Indianapolis Colts (10-4)
The colts have been an under the radar team this year. Their offense isn’t the flashiest, but the defense is nothing to mess with. With the new additition of Deforest Buckner, it has transformed the Colts d-line. In the middle of field is one of the top linebackers in teh game Darius Leonard. With the team having over 30 sacks, they are creating turnover which is advantageous to the sack. You know what they say, offense wins games and defense wins championships.

7. Miami Dolphins (9-5)
Miami, part of the AFC East, is fighting for a wildcard spot with some quarterback controversy. In this year’s draft they went and got Tua Tagovailoa with the 5th overall pick. In the beginning of teh season Ryan Fitzpatrick was their starter, but then they threw Tua into the mix. He was looking good in his first two starts, but then it started to fall apart. He was playing poorly, so him and Ryan Fitzpatrick started to go back and forth as the starter. Besides that the rest of the team is good, Xavien Howard having a great season with 9 interceptions, and the special teams is really something to watch. In the end, this Miami team has turned things around and could end up in the playoffs.
