Dodgeball Tournament raises money for Blue Devil baseball program

Ant Cruz lines up at half court with his team. He was suited up and ready for a competitive game with the championship on the line. See, the thing is that he wasn’t in gym class; he was preparing himself for the dodgeball game that had the roughest and toughest teams in Hammonton High.

Organized by physical education teacher and baseball coach Mr. Gary Sarno, the event, in its fourth year, helps raise money for the Blue Devil boys baseball team to purchase new equipment and clothing for the players.

The tournament participants were full of enthusiasm, hard-working players and an extremely loud section of fans ready to cheer on teams such as the Black Mambas, the Avengers, the Flaming Fricks, and the Black Ninjas  that competed in the dodgeball tournament, among others.

After a few intense matches, near the end of the tournament, the referees decided that there was going to be one last match. It was going to be Caprio versus Caprio. Brother versus sister. Carly Caprio ran to half court to retrieve the ball while Chris Caprio stayed on his side. The referee called full court and they want at it. Carly hit Chris with the ball and was victorious.
