Hammonton High School’s girls soccer has spent the last three months surprising NJ.com with their winning record of 14-6. In the beginning of preseason they were projected to not make any sound in the league, but the girls proved other wise. By the end of the season they finished for the second seed in playoff rankings.

All of the girls, including captain Kylie Mocarski, know that there has been keys leading to their great success this season.

“Our main keys to each game were positivity, working off the ball together, and taking every single practice serious,” she said.

Last Thursday the girls won an intense game over Kingsway with a goal in the last two minutes of play from Maddie Chiola.

“There was two minutes left and we were taking a corner. Marissa crossed the ball over and i got my head on it and sent it in the back of the net,” she said.

Star defensemen and captain, Lizzy Thackston, spoke of what this win meant for the team and what kind of confidence it gave them going into playoffs.

“That game showed and proved that we will never stop fighting for the win and will never give up,” she said.
After the great regular season, leading goal scorer Gab Tancredi told me what their team needs to do to continue winning through playoffs.

“We need to have unity, stay positive, and work as a team,” she said. “If we focus on playing the ball on the ground, and moving with pace off the ball we should be good,” said Tancredi.

Goalie Mckenna Forry told us any kind of worries they have for the team heading into playoffs.

“I’m worried that everyone is going to get nervous and not perform their best when we need them to. Also I am worried that when under pressure, our team may fail to play the style we are best at,” she said.
