The Blue Devil Classic is Hammonton’s baseball home tournament against three other teams. Ultimately, the tournament brings the entire baseball program together while helping the Blue Devil record. The teams that compete against the Devils are average performers, so the wins against them improve the team’s record.

Junior Anthony Cruz was awarded the MVP trophy as he belted two home runs in the championship game two help the Blue Devils offense.

” I felt great up there,” said Cruz.” I was just looking for my pitch and kept my hands and seeing the ball well.”

Players who have been working hard all year get a chance to show the coaches what they got. For example, junior pitcher John Maimone got his first varsity start and threw a no hitter against Overbrook High School in the championship.

The best feeling about the tournament is winning the trophy. Motivated by the desire to defend this trophy, the Blue Devils worked hard. After all, it’s aways better to reward the player on your team the MVP trophy.

“It’s a good tournament because everyone gets a chance to play and you have something to play for and that’s defending the trophy,” said coach Gregg Silvesti.

The Blue Devils came out on top in the tournament with two shutout wins, scoring a total of 18 runs and letting up zero.  All players got the opportunity to play, including the JV players who don’t play on varsity because of its strong lineup this year.
