After an 11-14 season last year, Hammonton’s baseball team has bounced back to do what no other team from here has done in eighteen years. They’ve made the prestigious Diamond Classic Tournament, which invites the top sixteen teams in South Jersey. With a 9-5 record, Hammonton sits at number seven in the top twenty teams in South Jersey.

“Its been a long, hard journey, everyone has been working hard at practice. We’ve been winning our past couple games so hopefully we keep it going,” said team captain LT Struble.

The Devils started the week at 9-3 and had a 7-1 record in their last eight games.

“At the beginning of the year, I’m pretty sure no one had us in the Diamond Classic or even in the top teams in South Jersey,” said junior catcher Anthony Cruz. “We’ve proved everyone wrong by working hard day in and day out, and we’ve always been hungry for a championship.”

The team will go into the tournament playing Maple Shade at Washington Township High School, and we most likely be a four-seed for the state tournament.

“This journey has been a day by day process. You have to build your team chemistry up and keep working hard every day.”  said junior shortstop Steve Cahill.

Each game from here on out is important to the Devils. If they win on Saturday, they will most likely play Bishop Eustace at Washington Township.
