The Hulu original series, “The Act,” premiered on March 20. The series tells the true story of Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard, and the horrifying events that unfolded on June 14, 2015.

If you are not aware of this true story I highly suggest looking it up before starting the series. But here is a brief synopsis of Gypsy Rose’s story:

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was known as the town angel. She was “diagnosed” with many different illnesses such as, leukemia, muscular dystrophy, severe sugar allergies, etc. These so called “challenges” that Gypsy Rose had left her in a wheelchair and on a feeding tube. Her mother Dee Dee was her caregiver, and to everyone in the town was the perfect mother. Behind closed doors, Dee Dee was faking Gypsy Rose’s illnesses entirely, suffering from

The series shows the events that happened behind the closed doors of the Blanchard’s home.

Prior to starting this series, I never heard of Gypsy Rose’s story. I stumbled across a few Youtube videos that tell all of the events that happened before the night that would Gypsy behind bars.

The series paints the picture very well. So far only four episodes have come out, and I am so impressed by the realism in the series. The actors play the parts so well, it almost feels as if you are watching these events happen for the first time. The show pulls you in, and makes you feel empathetic for Gypsy against her evil mother. Certain scenes in the episodes are very hard to watch, but that is what the show’s objective seems to be. It makes the situation so real, that they want you to see how hard it was for Gypsy and how eventually she reached her breaking point.

Overall, I would recommend this show to everyone. It is intense and mysterious, and will leave you wanting more to the story.
