2014 ACM Awards: A Review

The 49th annual Academy of Country Music Awards took place on April 6,2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show was hosted by Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton also know as “Bluke”. The two were both in the run for entertainer of the year, along with Blake Shelton’s wife, Miranda Lambert. Entertainer of the year went to the one and only, George Strait.

The show opened with Luke and Blake coming out on stage while confetti fell on the audience. This was the second year in a row the two were hosting together. They started off by joking with each other and about some audience members, setting up for a great show ahead.

One of the best performances of the night has to go to Blake Shelton and Shakira. Who knew the two ‘The Voice’ coaches could sing so well together on stage? They were great  and very entraining. Another great performance was Lady Antebellum and Stevie Nicks, they sang the song ‘Golden’, having the audience on their feet.

All the winners had short and some touching acceptance speeches. Miranda Lambert went home with three ACM’s and dedicated one of them to her friends who are going through a rough time. Lee Brice (winner of Song of the Year) had Connie Harrington, the writer of ‘I Drive Your Truck’, come up on stage, where she gave an emotional thank you to everyone making it such a big hit. Harrington wrote the song after hearing on the radio Jared Monti’s dad talking about him on the radio, Monti died in Afghanistan in 2006. His father said he still drives his truck because it reminds him of his son.
