Frozen: A New Disney Classic

Frozen: A New Disney Classic

Elsa from Disney’s latest masterpiece Frozen must have cast a spell on Hammonton because even though it’s spring, there is still snow and ice on the ground. Released in theaters on  November 27 and available on DVD recently on March 18, it has instantly become one of Disney’s best. Frozen won two Academy awards: the first for best animated feature, and the second for best original song for “Let it Go.”

I just recently watched this movie when it was released on Blue Ray, and this is one of the best animated films that I have ever seen. The story is about the relationship between Princess Anna and Princess Elsa, two sisters who were very close when they are children, but once Elsa accidentally hurts Anna with her icy powers she has to stay away from her.

The story takes place in the kingdom of Arendelle. The beginning of the story is sad when Anna and Elsa’s parents pass away in a boating accident, leaving leaving Elsa in line for the throne when she comes of age. Fast forward to the day of Elsa’s coronation, when she accidentally releases her magic in front of everyone. They call her a sorceress, and she quickly retreats to the North Mountain. Elsa inadvertently releases an endless winter on the kingdom. Anna runs after her, and she makes new friends along the way. Kristoff is a mountain man who helps Anna get to Elsa. Olaf is a snowman created by Elsa who used to be their childhood friend.

Kristen Bell was the voice of Anna. Her bright quirky personality matches Anna perfectly. Bell is able to encompass Anna’s naivety and innocence. Broadway star Idina Menzel, the voice of Elsa, did a great job portraying the queen. In “Let it Go,” Menzel was able to convey the emotions of Elsa purely through her voice. The relief of being able to use her powers without shame is conveyed through Menzel’s voice. The climatic scene was great because of the amazing work of the voice actors.

I liked most of the scenes of the movie. One of my favorite scenes was when Elsa creates the ice castle while she was singing. I liked it because I appreciate the art of animation and the amount of work it takes make something beautiful. I also like it because of the music. This scene takes two arts and blends them together amazingly. I also enjoyed all of the humorous scenes with Olaf the snowman. The only scene that I did not like was the turning point when the antagonist is established.

The lesson that can be learned is that the love between two sisters should never be underestimated. The love between Elsa and Anna is what save the kingdom. The movie shows that true love doesn’t always have to be romantic.

This movie is great for the entire family. It is both humorous and exciting. I give this four and half out of five stars. I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys animation or Disney movies. This movie deserves a place next to ‘Aladdin,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘The Lion King,’ and ‘Snow White’. The movie is rated G and is definitely worth buying.

Let it go? I say buy at Walmart or Target while you still can.
