Interact Club spreads the message of service over self

At Hammonton, there are several clubs that revolve around volunteering and lending a hand to those in need. Clubs such as Key Club, the FCA, and the Leo Club have gained a lot of traction, and earn new and returning members every year.

This year, a volunteering new club has emerged: Interact Club.

The club is led by Ms. Teah Daniels, who teaches CADD, and a group of elected board members.

Hammonton’s chapter of the Interact Club is sponsored by the Hammonton Rotary Club, and follows the message of service over oneself. Just like Key Club and the Leo Club, Interact hones in on helping certain causes.

Daniels mentioned that Rotary Club, as well as Interact, has a huge focus on curing polio, getting clean water, and building schools in third world countries.

However, each Interact Club can decide which cause they want to assist, and the club works on two major service projects a year: one that benefits the community, and one that benefits the world.

Allison Cunningham, a member of Interact, expressed her thoughts on why she joined the club:

“The Interact Club is my first [volunteering club]. I’ve always been interested in volunteering, but I wasn’t really able to commit,” Cunningham said. “I’m looking to help people out whenever I can … I feel like the best way for me to help out is through volunteering, right now.”

For their first project, the club will be helping homeless children by creating Night Night Packages for Project Night Night, a non-profit organization.

A drive will be held at HHS from December 1st through December 16th for blankets, stuffed animals, and children’s books to put into the Night Night Packages, and will be given to the Covenant House in Atlantic City.
