How Hammonton Students and Staff Are .... or Are Not... Bringing In the New Year.

With Christmas just around the corner, many are preparing for the New Year, what it will bring them, and how they will bring it in.

Many have so many ideas of the perfect New Year’s Eve, but how many actually go out and have such an exciting time.

I was shocked at the responses of our staff and student body.

Junior Danielle LaSassa, says that unfortunately she will be spending her New Years at work and junior Skylar Ordille says she will be doing the same.

Principal Tom Ramsay says that he will be staying home with friends and family to enjoy a dinner and maybe watch the ball drop.

Ramsay was not the only member of the staff who planned on staying home. Biology teacher Mr. Brian Gazzara biology teacher, is doing the same. “I’m going to spend it with my family. I have four kids to spend it with now.”

Tyler Strahan, a senior, also said that she will be spending it at home.

Last year a poll was taken that showed fairly surprising results. One thousand and ninety nine people were surveyed and of that only 14% said that they would be going out to party the New Year in.

Twenty-eight percent even said that they would be in bed before the ball in New York City even dropped.

So here is the question: why is New Year’s Eve talked up to be one of the biggest celebrations of our culture if not many really do anything special for it anymore?

New Year’s Eve may not be as big a celebration for some people as it is for other, but it is still a great way to reflect on the past year and the hoping for an even better New Year.
