Prior to the 2016 NFL draft a video of offensive tackle, Laremy Tunsil, was leaked to the public on social media. The video contained footage of Tunsil taking a bong hit. This dropped Tunsil from being a top 5 pick to going 13th to the Miami Dolphins. Tunsil who has no recollection of posting the video claims his account was hacked. Sources say Tunsil’s step father, Lindsay Miller, was behind the hacking. But as far as his attorney knows it wasn’t Tunsil’s stepfather. And, as of today, they still don’t know.

Here’s a case where someone who is incredibly talented and was on the brink of A LOT of fame and success. And something from the past ruined it. Lots of people do dumb stuff in their life. However, when it’s online, it can haunt people in ways that they never imagined.

Did the teenage version of Laremy Tuncil think that this video would prevent him from making millions? No.

And this brings me to the next question: Do teens really pay attention to what they post?  Does Tunsil’s misfortune teach us anything?

For senior Vincent Maimone, thinking before posting is pretty important.

“Some teens don’t have a filter on what they put online,” he said. “But I always take a step back and say, ‘What will other people think of me when I post this video?’ and if I don’t think it’s appropriate I won’t post it.”

One inevitable truth, though, is that people don’t know now what they might regret later.

“Every decision you make leads to the outcome of your life,” said senior Evan Barnett.

Barnett, acknowledge, however, that he doesn’t if what he has posted today will be a problem later.

“I’ll find out one day,” he says.

Junior Cam Cappuccio acknowledged that she has heard of people losing their jobs over social media posts. The person posed in a picture with revealing clothing, and the woman’s company addressed it with her.

For that reason, she agrees with Maimone and Barnett.
“I don’t think you should put anything on social media that can affect your future.”
