Walking into Walmart on in early November, I felt like I was attacked by Christmas spirit.

“All I Want for Christmas” was blaring over the sound system, gingerbread house kits lined the aisles, and all of sudden, I felt very confused.

“Was Halloween not just a week ago? Is there no such thing as Thanksgiving anymore?”

Walmart wasn’t the only one spreading Christmas cheer early either. Shoprite already has their tree up, employees at K Nails arealready rocking their Christmas sweaters and Santa is already making his rounds at the all of the local malls.

I’m not the only one affected by this. The early Christmas celebrations stirred up reactions throughout the school.

Junior Colby Crescenzo welcomes the early display of decorations.

“I love that because it bring you into the Christmas Spirit,” she said.

Hall monitor Ms. Migaly Acevedo doesn’t mind the early celebration because it reminds her of how the holiday is celebrated in Puerto Rico.

“I like it. Its better. In Puerto Rico we celebrate for almost two months. Oh yea, Christmas parties all the time. In October you already hear music, everyone’s eating food, Oh my God I love it,” she added with smile.

However, this phenomena doesn’t sit well with everyone.

“I do not like it. I think they should stop skipping holidays. I like my turkey and mashed potatoes,” said Coach Lauren Frazier, who is a new teacher in the physical education department.

Senior Dezirae Rubba was so frustrated by it that she took it to Twitter, writing “It drives me crazy and I hate it so much that my mom’s playing Christmas music already. It’s been two weeks of this. I’m going insane.”

Instructional aide Ms. Macie Macrie captured the mixed feelings that many deal with during this time of year.

“I think its ridiculous. What is this? Are we getting rid of Thanksgiving now? Although, they did sucker me into buying a cheetah print Christmas ball because I’m obsessed with animal print.”
