The 5 Ups and Downs of Being a Senior

The four years of high school are the fastest fours years of a person’s life. There is so much going on and so much pressure to perform at a high level in a classroom and on the sports field. There are many great times in high school, but there are many things that people complain about when they think about high school.

Below is my assessment of the highs and lows.

Ups

1. For twelve years, we have been with the same people in the same town and doing the same thing. It;s time for a change. When graduation rolls around, students are able to experience something different then just walking the halls of a Hammonton high school.

2. Senior Trip is one of the most looked forward to events for seniors. It enables students to create memories with their friends that they will remember for the rest of their lives. Prom is another event that excites the student body. It is the last time to go to a dance with your friends, ask someone in a cute way, and have a blast the entire weekend.

3. There are many privileges of being a senior, and one is senior privilege. All though it doesn’t seem like much, leaving two minutes early from each class is a great thing because of the crowded hallways and impossible mobility.

4. All of high school consists of working to get into a good college and get good grades. All of that hard work finally pays off when graduation rolls around.

5. Senior year is the last time to make an impression on the school and even yourself. You will never be able to hang out with your friends the same way you do now and see them everyday in school. Also, sports and clubs are important to many and many people want toy make a final run for the head of a club or a championship in sports.

Downs:

1. College Applications are a pain and they take numerous hours to complete. Between college applications, scholarship applications, and ding research for the future, there is barely any time to relax and enjoy your final year in high school.

2. This is the last year that people can shine on the sports field or work in a club to help the school function. Many students like clubs and sports to make new friends and to be successful in these events. There will never be another chance to win a championship and play with your friends.

3. The after school hang outs and the weekend sleepovers are just about over because everyone goes their separate ways and everyone has a different schedule or is in a different place.

4. There is much more responsibility as a senior and after you graduate because you are becoming an adult and more independent. As cool as that may sound, mom and dad are not there to get you out of trouble or to pay for things.

5. If a student does not get into their “dream school,” there is a lot of upset and stress of where they are going to spend the next 4-5 years of their life preparing for their future.
