When I pitched my first story for journalism, one thing that caught my attention was that the JV Football team had a better record than Varsity. If you’ve been keeping up with football this year, you know it’s been a rough season. No wins, and only a few touchdowns. Frederick Weiss got two touchdowns Josiah Miller also got us 2 touchdowns so in total, the Blue Devils got four touchdowns this season.
So it might be tempting to compare JV and Varsity. However, I learned that you can’t really do that.
I found information on the Varsity team because we keep track of their stats, but I learned that we don’t keep track of the JV teams stats. According to Max Preps Deandre Clemons ran 78.8 yards per game and Julius Witcher got 7.4 tackles per game, but no stats exist for the JV team.
You can’t compare the two, but we can talk about the JV experiences. Most have the goal of getting on varsity, but they focus on how to get there.
“My goal on the JV team is to win games and get on Varsity,” said sophomore Anthony Pagano.
“It’s really fun being on the JV team and I wanna make that jump from JV to Varsity,” said sophomore Josh Geiling.
“I have been having a lot of fun on the JV team and I like the coaches, my goal is to get on to varsity, ” said Junior Logan Myers.
While some might assume non-Varsity players but these players are very happy and are working hard to get on varsity and I think they are performing so well on the field this year because they are not disappointed with themselves they do not have that mentality of giving up.
