Where it all Started
Peso Pluma or Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija was born in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico his mother had roots that tied her to Sinaloa, and his father was born in Chiapas Mexico. I first heard of Peso Pluma last year during March-April when he made a remix of “La Bebe” with Yng Lucas, a song that would blow up and boost his career to fame. Peso Pluma would reach absolute success in the months to come when he started making “Corridos Belicos” a music genre that is very popular right now with the new generation of teens in Mexico and with Mexican-Americans here in the United States.
Where the name “Peso Pluma” came from
When translated in english the unique stage name Hasan uses means “featherweight’ and although it’s unlike anything heard before Peso Pluma himself didn’t come up with it. It was actually former Mexican champion boxer Marco Antonio Barreras who suggested the name when Peso Pluma met him at a private concert. Just like his new found success in the blink of an eye the singer knew what he wanted his stage name to be when the boxer brought up he had been champion in the featherweight category aka categoria peso pluma. The singer claims he had already briefly thought of the name before since he and the rest of his band were all skinny so when Barreras brought up the name he deemed it to be destiny and found world success in the months that followed.
His Connection with the People
Peso Plumas success wouldn’t be near what he is today if it weren’t for the connection he’s developed over the past year with his fans, Peso Pluma found early success in Mexico and with Mexican-Americans here in the United States thanks to the younger generation’s current love for Regional Mexican music. That popularity seems to have doubled in recent weeks and that’s thanks to Peso Pluma honoring legends of the Mexican music industry during his Coachella set where he added background videos of legends who paved the way for him. This is just one of the many times Peso Pluma has included his Mexican roots to his music and stage performances, since the very begining of his career he stated that he wanted to put Mexico’s name on the charts of the music industry and wherever he goes he seems to do just that.
