The year of 2023 was a great one for movies in general as many anticipated movies came out and a few surprises as well. Even with the writers and actors strike, 2023 had releases from premier directors like Martin Scoresese and Christopher Nolan giving us some of the best movies of their entire careers. While there were many great movies this year, only 3 made the top list this year.

Killers of the Flower Moon is the latest Martin Scorsese film based on the book of the same name going over the real murders of the Osage people in Oklahoma in the 1920’s after oil is discovered. While the movie is 3 1⁄2 hours and does drag a tad near the end, the story follows Ernest Burkhart played by Leonardo DiCaprio who is a dumb American in its purest form as he is only driven by money and uses his connections to Wiliam Hale, played by Robert De Niro, to mary an Osage and take her money. While the movie is long it is well paced with amazing performances from its cast and tells a heart gripping story explaining the wrongdoings that took place to the Osage people.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the 2nd installment in the Spider-Verse franchise and is arguably better than the first. Its amazing and innovative animation style brings life to the animated genre and is a spectacle to look at. It follows bith Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey as they navigate the Spider-Verse. Its only issue is its ending which is a cliffhanger.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer tells the true story of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer who is the man behind the atomic bomb. Its stunning visuals, star studded cast and its themes elevate this movie beyond anything else. While being a 3 hour movie, it rarely feels like one and slowly transitions into a court drama in the third act makes this a memerable movie that also deserves a second watch to fully interpalate its themes and the events that take place.
