For students in Ms Inemer’s Up for Life program, learning is a hands-on experience.

Whether it be a science, math, or culinary lesson, teachers in the program have looked for innovative ways to teach life skills.

To plan for some of the class culinary projects, students first developed lists based on recipes and traveled to ShopRite to locate and purchase all ingredients. Back in the classroom, they focused on safely using kitchen tools to cut, peel, grate, and measure properly. For some, it was their first time trying this.

And, of course, they get to enjoy the final products: apple crisp, Blondies, and tacos on a special Taco Day in class.

Science lessons also move outside the classroom walls. For a lesson on living and non-living items, students went on a scavenger hunt around the building for examples of each category, which they followed up with a discussion and collage activity.
