Sophia Pullia for Freshman Class Treasurer

Sophia Pullia for Freshman Class Treasurer

In your opinion, what is/are the most pressing issue(s) for HHS students this year?

In my opinion, this year’s biggest challenge is the unexpected virus, Covid-19. It’s very hard to stay social with friends and classmates with the distancing and mask guidelines. The masks are the biggest challenge for me personally because it’s hard to understand people speaking, see facial expressions, and it’s a burden to keep on my face all day in school. Additionally, the virus makes after school activities very difficult. As a person who loves getting involved in sports and clubs, it will be hard to plan meetings, practices, events, and more.

What is important about this year/grade (i.e. freshman year, sophomore year, junior year, senior year), and what role do you believe class officers have in making it a successful one?

As freshmen, this year is very important. This year is the start of my highschool experience, and my future. Already, I am learning how to navigate the building and figuring out my strengths and weaknesses academically and physically. Freshman year is also an opportunity to make new friends and try new things. Class officers help plan and set the tone for the year. Class officers should set examples of leadership, kindness, and integrity among the students.

What are some of the strengths of the HHS student community?

There are many strengths that the HHS community offers. The school offers many diverse classes, clubs, and sports that many students engage in. The sports and clubs offer a bond like no other. For me, the school’s field hockey team has created a second family and I enjoy making lasting friendships through it. The school also has many resources for those students in need. For example there is a place that students can go to for food and other necessities. In the end, everyone comes together to support our school.

What are some areas of the HHS experience that could be better?

With the virus, the school could create a better experience by having scheduled google meets for remote and cohort A and B students. It is very hard for myself and others to learn through a computer screen. With live classes, it keeps my interest and sparks more creativity. In person classes keep me very involved during classes when participating and raising my hand. Live virtual classes could create the same experience for students home and in class.

Write one question that WE SHOULD HAVE ASKED YOU BUT DIDN’T. Then answer it!

A question that should have been asked but wasn’t was “What would I accomplish as Freshman class treasurer?” The most important thing I would strive to do is to create new and fun opportunities to keep students involved, even with the virus. I will try and make this year as fun as possible for students and staff. I will try my best to help our class raise money through different prospective fundraisers. I will work very hard for the class of 2024.
