Riley Ruberton for Sophomore Class Treasurer

In your opinion, what is/are the most pressing issue(s) for HHS students this year?
In my opinion, the most pressing issue that students will face this year is keeping up their school spirit. Not going to school everyday, not having dances, and not being able to attend sporting events make it difficult to be excited for school. Staying motivated during online school will also be something new and challenging for students this year.

What is important about this year/grade (i.e. freshman year, sophomore year, junior year, senior year), and what role do you believe class officers have in making it a successful one?
Sophomore year is all about starting to get more serious. Since it’s our second year at HHS we will become more involved in social activities and will start to take harder courses. However, all throughout highschool you want to have fun. Which is what the class officers are there for. As a class officer it is our job to make the school year more fun for our peers by helping with events such as dances and hallway decorating. However, it also serves as a role to be a voice for your classmates.

What are some of the strengths of the HHS student community?
Being a student at HHS means you become a Blue Devil, making you a part of a family for the rest of your life. I think our student body does a really good job at making high school a very fun experience. For example, football games on Friday nights were always a highlight because we were all able to show our support for our football team in a way that every grade was able to participate in.

What are some areas of the HHS experience that could be better?
However I would say that even though our student body is good at making high school a fun time, that doesn’t mean that we are all nice to each other. I think something to improve on would be the negative energy that students have toward their peers. It doesn’t mean you have to like everyone but you should still respect each other.

Write one question that WE SHOULD HAVE ASKED YOU BUT DIDN’T. Then answer it!
What would you do if you are voted into the position you are running for? If my classmates voted for me to be our sophomore class treasurer I would do everything I could to ensure a fun school year during these unprecedented times. I’d try my best to make school as fun as it was in past years. I’d vouch for things such as themed days during school before a football game to give the students something to participate in and to keep spirits high.
