Gianna Johnson for Freshman Class Treasurer

In your opinion, what is/are the most pressing issue(s) for HHS students this year?
The most pressing issue that the HHS students are facing this year is not being able to go to social events. These could include football games, homecoming, other sports events, pep rallies, and so much more. This is especially difficult for the incoming freshman because they were looking forward to things like these, and now they cannot experience them yet. Without these events being held, students don’t have as much social interaction as they could have if these were held.

What is important about this year/grade (i.e. freshman year, sophomore year, junior year, senior year), and what role do you believe class officers have in making it a successful one?
Freshman year is so important because it’s everyone’s first year of high school, students in this grade are learning to adjust to new things in the high school community. They are experiencing things that they never would have experienced in middle school or elementary school. I believe that class officers take a huge part in making everyone have an awesome freshman year. They represent the grade as a whole, and they can help make decisions that the grade will be benefitted by. Officers know what is best for their class, this is because the office is elected by their peers, they understand because they’re experiencing these things right alongside of their peers.

What are some of the strengths of the HHS student community?
I find that our school thrives on school spirit and unity. The students are usually supporting their school with apparel, school colors, and there are a lot of people supporting the school’s sports teams. The student community is also very unified. I’ve noticed that upperclassmen are friendly and helpful towards the younger students. Some students have friends that are older students, and this makes the school a more unified community.

What are some areas of the HHS experience that could be better?
Since I am new to the school community, so I look forward to listening to my peers to learn how everyone else feels about how we can improve the experience at school.

Write one question that WE SHOULD HAVE ASKED YOU BUT DIDN’T. Then answer it!
You should’ve asked me why I am running for this position. I am running to be the Class of 2024 Class Office treasurer because I feel as though I have what it takes to handle this position. I believe that you need an eye for detail, good focus, and communication skills to be a successful treasurer, and I check the box on all three of those things. I know how to communicate with my peers, and others in the Class Office when I need to. I am also a very responsible person, and I can handle the high demand that a position like this requires.
