Madi Mortelliti for Junior Class President

The Devils’ Advocate  student newspaper reached out to all running for class office prior to the election. The staff created a few questions that we believe would help the student body get a better sense of each candidate and their values before voting next week.

Below is the Q&A featuring Madi Mortelliti, candidate for Junior Class President.

In your opinion, what is/are the most pressing issue(s) for today’s high school students?

The most pressing issue for today’s high school students is living up to certain expectations and standards that society and social media constantly portray. Individuals should feel free to live unfiltered.

What is important about next year (i.e. sophomore year, junior year, senior year), and what role do you believe class officers have in making it a successful one?

I feel the most important event for Junior year is Prom! Students look forward to Prom and creating a theme all year long. Along with the other class officers, I cannot wait to make it another unforgettable night.

What are some of the strengths of the HHS student community?

I feel some strengths of the HHS student community are the amount of diverse clubs the school has to offer. Students have so many opportunities to get involved! The HHS student community also thrives in communication. No voice goes unheard when planning spirit weeks or pep rallies. When it comes to student events (like homecoming hallways) students go above and beyond in completely transforming the hallways to fit the themes.

What are some areas of the HHS experience that could be better?

Some areas of the HHS experience that could be better would be rewarding students with different activities, trips, food etc sporadically throughout each marking period. Students sometimes feel that trips and activities are so close together. At some points of the year, they don’t have anything to look forward to.

Write one question that WE SHOULD HAVE ASKED YOU BUT DIDN’T and answer it.

What would you try to implement for students at HHS to make school a more enjoyable place? I want to listen to what the students have to say. A common liking of most students is coffee. Sometimes a sip of coffee can change someone’s whole mood. I want to add a Wawa or Dunkin’ Donuts station in the cafeteria that would be available for students at any point throughout the day. I strongly believe so many students would enjoy and benefit from this.
