On March 24, 2016 Garry Shandling died of a suspected heart attack likely due to an hyperparathyroid gland. Garry Shandling started as a comedy writer for Sanford and Son, but in 1978, he transitioned into stand up because he was frustrated with situation comedy’s formulaic writing.

He had 3 specials, “Garry Shandling: Alone in Vegas”, “The garry shandling Show: 25th Anniversary Special”, “Garry Shandling: Stand Up”. From 1985-1990 he did “ The Garry Shandling Show” which ran for 72 episodes. 15 of which were written by Garry Shandling himself. A few years after The Garry Shandling Show, another show was created based on the character Garry Shandling created, “Larry Sanders”. It was named of course, “The Larry Sanders Show” which ran for 89 episodes from 1992 through 1998 and was nominated for 56 Emmy Awards and won 3.

Garry Shandling wrote 38 episodes of the show and directed 3 the final season. Garry has also hosted the Grammys in 1990,1991,1993 and 1994, and hosted the Emmys in 2000 and 2004. It was only a couple of weeks ago since Garry Shandling died and he will be missed and his legacy will live on.
