As a young soccer player, most start to develop a love for a famous professional soccer team or player.

Growing up, my love for soccer took me in the direction of watching and following the US Women’s National Soccer team. They have been number one in the country for as long as I could remember, and I always knew that they were who I looked up to. I watched the same players growing up, and watched them develop.

However, today our topic will be about their latest performance in the SheBelievesCup. Though, their performance allowed them to win it wasn’t all pretty.

This team is very diverse to where even the players on the bench will have an impact. Kickoff started with the US going against Canada, with one intense match. Their starting lineup will always remain insanely good, with 8 of them being veterans and 3 being newcomers with a chance to play. They started solid on defense with a shutout, but so did Canada.

They remained 0-0 for awhile, until their head coach made a switch. And that impacted the whole game completely, with the sub in of Rose Lavelle. A centermid who is extremely talented, and stole the show on February 18th. She was able to put one in the back of the net after a long tied 0-0 to secure a win for the US. With their first win, they were able to be ranked high in standards along with their rival Brazil.

Their next game was just three days later on February 21 against the top team, Brazil. This should’ve been a battle against their rival. This time with a solid lineup of 9 veterans, 1 newcomer, and a player not a vertern but also not a newcomer, Rose Lavelle makes this a dangerous lineup. The US started very strong by scoring a goal early within the first 15 minutes of the game. Christian Press, a vetern player, dribbled down the sideline and placed one perfected right side panel. Crystal Dunn played some fantastic defensive that night to save a potential goal that could’ve tied up the game. However, Megan Rapinoe secured the last goal of the night for the US to make sure the US advanced with a 2-0 lead.

The last game of the SheBelievesCup was, in my opinion, the worst overall. This was the game against Argentina that was overall too easy. The US started a killer lineup with a new goalie starting for a chance, and also three newcomers who got a chance to get some minutes. The scoring started early, 15 minutes early, where Megan Rapinoe placed one in the back of the net. Another 10 minutes goes by, and she places yet another in the back of the net making the score 2-0. The score then goes up again, thanks to Carli Lloyd, to make it 3-0, and newcomer Kristie Mewis makes it 4-0. Then after that it was downhill for Argentina when Alex Morgan, and Christen Press added to the score to secure a 6-0 win.

Overall, this then closed out the SheBelievesCup, and secured the US with the title for it.
