On Saturday night, the legacy and fairytale of Conor McGregor’s undefeated UFC career came to a shocking end when number two contender, Nate Diaz, made McGregor tap out with a rear naked choke in round two of the five round fight. Diaz, who fights in the light and welterweight divisions in the MMA, was a major underdog in the fight despite his weight and strength advantage over McGregor.

The Ireland native, Conor McGregor, had never lost a fight in his official UFC career entering the fight on March 5. McGregor, who is the champion in his division from defeating the former champ, Jose Aldo, in thirteen seconds of their fight on December 12, was accused by Diaz in their press conference for being under the influence of steroids and McGregor, who was enraged at the comment, vowed to destroy Diaz, or the “fajita” in which he called him. Lucky for McGregor, the belt was not on the line against the California native Diaz because the polar opposite occurred.

Coming into the fight, McGregor came out very strong embarrassing Diaz with his shenanigans and absolutely beating Diaz senseless. Though round one was all McGregor, round two was a completely different story. Diaz came out a different man and just put McGregor back in his place the whole round. McGregor tried his best to knock out Diaz, but the feat could not be done accomplished. Diaz backed McGregor into the corner of the octagon and it was all over. The rear naked choke was locked in the McGregor tapped immediately.

After the fight when Joe Rogan asked Diaz how he feels about shaking the world at their feet and his response was simply, “Hey, I’m not surprised mother @&!*ers.” Diaz had two weeks notice of the fight without a training camp to get ready for the fight, making it more impressive.

“I took a chance,” McGregor told UFC announcer Joe Rogan after the fight. “It didn’t work out. It is what it is. I’ll take it like a man, like a champion, and come back and do it again.” McGregor took his loss like a man respectably and will come back bigger and better to try and defeat Diaz and make his mark.
