Watching a Hammonton field hockey match, junior Jane Donio-Enscoe is a stand out in the midfield and offense with her stick work and speed.  This season she scored 40 goals, shattering the previous seasonal record of 26 goals.

“Jane’s determination and drive sets her apart from other players.  She really wants it all on the field, and is constantly working hard to better herself and understand the concepts of the game,” said field hockey coach Ms. Rose Santiago.

With so much skill and knowledge of the game, it is surprising that Donio-Enscoe did not start playing field hockey until sixth grade.  According to her mother, Anne Donio, Jane grew up playing roller hockey with the guys.

“Jane is a natural athlete.  She started playing roller hockey when she was young so the change from roller hockey to field hockey was easy,” she said.

Mrs. Donio has had a big impact on Jane’s field hockey career.  Field hockey runs in the family, and during high school, she herself held the career record with 55 goals.

“My mom is always supporting me and encouraging me to be the best I can be.  Without her I would not have accomplished a lot of what I have.  She is always pushing me and is always in my corner,” Jane said. “I am so glad to have her by my side.”

Donio-Enschoe has surpassed her mother’s career record with a total of 65 career goals.  She still has her senior year to beat the current career record of 71 goals and is hoping to break the career goals record next season with her coaches and teammates by her side.

“Jane only needs six goals to tie the record and seven to beat the record.  I want her to continue to be a leader and use her strengths to help out the team,” said Santiago.

Being a part of a team is one of Donio-Enscoe’s favorite aspects of field hockey.  Through field hockey, she has made a lot of friends and had the opportunity to meet a lot of great people.

“Teammates have each other’s backs.  Everyone works hard together, practices together and plays together,” she said.

According to teammate senior Kimberly Hellyer, her positive and humble attitude makes an impact on the team.

“It is obvious Jane has a passion for the game.  She is enthusiastic before every game, and comes to every game focused and ready to play.  Although she is amazing on the field, one of her best qualities is she remains humble,” she said.

Besides the high school field hockey team, Donio-Enscoe currently plays for the club team, Spirit of USA.  Her main accomplishments are winning the National Club Championship with her club team in 2012 and winning the Junior Olympics in 2012 and 2013.

She plans to play field hockey in college is currently looking at a number of universities but has yet to make any final decisions.
