Air conditioning breakdown means rising temperatures in HHS

A thermometer from the one of the chemistry classrooms on the second floor showed the temperature in the mid-80s.

Students and staff arrived at school on Thursday to find humid and warm temperatures. According to a faculty email and confirmed by an announcement during Period 5 to students, the air conditioning unit was down. Administration had reached out to the contractors to remediate the issue.

Some classes adjusted their activities to accommodate students and the heat. For example, physical classes moved outside because it was cooler than inside the gymnasium.

For junior Emily Vitalo, wearing long sleeves and jeans wasn’t an ideal fashion choice.

“I wish there was an all-school Remind or something that they could have sent this morning,” she said. “I would’ve worn something different.”

Being hot made it difficult for junior Frank Bartolone to focus in class.

“In fifth period, I was falling asleep,” he said.

Principal Ramsay advised staff to keep classroom windows closed to help reduce the humidity. The school did not announce when the issue would be resolved.
