With the addition of tablets and chrome books within Hammonton High School we have a large focus on being a technology based school, but technology is ever changing and one of the newest pieces of tech can be an education boost as well as a way to save money within our school setting.

The new item is known as Virtual Reality, or VR for short, which is a computer generated simulation of 3D environments which can be interacted with in a seemingly real way using a  video headset and sensor gloves. It has many applications that can be implemented into our school some of which include Biology and Health simulations that will help teach students about different applications of their respective studies and provide an easy way to study different scenarios that were previously impossible within the school setting.

Senior Nick Weissman has used this new equipment.

“This has been one of the most revolutionary techs of our generation and my experience showed that it is extremely life-like and has applications in multiple different scenarios,” he said. “Although most of mine are gaming, there are even more countless opportunities with it.”

With the countless applications it comes at a surprisingly low cost for such new technology with some as low as $99 per unit.

Virtual reality has been growing at an exponential rate with more and more uses found everyday with applications found for it in gaming, medical, astrological, biological, and military. Educational can be yet another addition to its many applications and as time progresses and the tech is refined it will be a reliable tool for school use.
