Moving Conferences: Advantages and Disadvantages

When Hammonton made the move to go to from the Cape Atlantic League to the Tri-County Conference, it was a big deal throughout the town. Over a year and a half in, there are still mixed feelings about the distances, competition, and press coverage.

A contributing factor with moving conferences is the publicity of team and individual success. Hammonton sports are predominately covered by the Press of Atlantic City, but is in a conference that is mainly covered by the Courier Post. This makes us the lone school in South Jersey that has this problem. Hammonton football will get the acknowledgment it deserves because of the powerhouse program it is, but what about our other sports? The Press of AC simply will not cover a program as much if it does not affect the other schools they are covering. As in individual accolades, Hammonton athletes

Distances could also be a factor when changing conferences. Excluding the furthest destinations Middle Township from the CAL and Kingsway from the TCC, the miles in our current and former conferences are extremely close with the slight advantage to the Tri-County Conference.

All in all, there will always be the chatter and controversy concerning the former level of play HHS  switched from and the rivalries we left.
