Ms. Louise Henshaw has been a teacher at Hammonton High School since 2004. She attended four different high schools, ultimately graduating from Mainland in 1972. She graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1978, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology. She then attended Rowan  and graduate in 2004 with a masters in school psychology. She worked in the Egg Harbor City School District from 1985 through 2003 as a school social worker before continuing to Hammonton High School in 2004 as a school psychologist.

I was inspired to go into education because… I have always had a strong desire to work with children and I enjoy seeing them learn and grow.

The best piece of advice I would give to other guidance/CST workers is… to establish a good working relationship with the teachers, both general education and special education, because they see the students on a daily basis and really get to know them and can provide much insight when a student is experiencing problems. The teachers are very helpful with alerting you of potential problems and when there are situations in the home that you need to be aware of that could be impacting a student’s academic performance and emotional well-being.

During retirement, I plan to… travel, read, and relax. I plan to spend my summers at the shore in New Jersey and then spend as much time as possible during the cold winter months in Florida.

Some of the highlights/special memories of my career include… when my former students come back to visit and tell me about their careers and families; providing advice to students about college and career options; counseling individual students and helping them with their problems.

The best thing about this job has been… watching my students grow into adults, seeing them graduate and go on to college or begin working in their chosen careers.

If I could re-do one thing about my career, I would… not change anything.

When I’m not in school, I like to… spend time with my family and friends, going to the beach, going on our boat, and going out to eat.
