Guidance counselor Ms. Evelyn Santiago graduated from Hammonton High School in 1979, then went on to attend Trenton State (’83) and Rowan University (’02).  Her first teaching job was as a physical education teacher in Egg Harbor City, where she worked from 1985-2000.

I was inspired to become a teacher because of… my uncle, who was a teacher. I always loved playing school when I was younger.

The best piece of advice for other teachers is… to be flexible, to be understanding, and to not forget why you chose that profession.

During retirement I will… travel and pursue part time college position later on in my retirement life.

Some of the highlights of my career are… turning kids life around to help them graduate high school and coaching the bowling team.

The best thing about being a guidance counselor… is my coworkers and office.

One thing that I would redo if I could is… pursuing my supervisor certificate.

When I’m not in school I like to… go to the gym, baseball games, read books on the beach, and enjoy hanging out with family and friends.
