Mrs. Streitfeld teaching a lesson to her English 3 class.

Mrs. Andrea Streitfeld is an English teacher here at Hammonton High School. She graduated from New Milford High School in 1971. After graduating high school, Streitfeld attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck NJ and graduated in 1975. This is her 19th year here, but she also was a substitute teacher for 5 years before that. I have recently sat down with her to learn more about her.

I did not know… I wanted to be an English teacher. I started in elementary education and decided I wanted to work with older kids. I had a great professor who got me interested in teaching English.

I am… happy, energetic, friendly, and compassionate.

When I’m not in school I enjoy… being with my two grandchildren, traveling, being with my friends and family, reading, and renovating my house because it’s a little old.

The things I like most about myself is… I’m non-judgmental. I have the ability to listen to people and give them a safe place to come.

My biggest fear is… if something were to happen to the people I love.

If I could be anything other than a teacher I would… own a coffee shop and a book store.

My favorite novel is… Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett.

If I could be any animal I would be… a dog because they just give unconditional love. They’re loyal and smart.

My favorite place to eat is… Annata right now. I love it!

My favorite thing about teaching is… just being around teenagers. I think they’re funny, they teach me too, and keep me young.

I listen to… a wide variety of music. I enjoy jazz, 60’s rock and roll, certain opera, not all, not country, and not rap, but I accept it for the poetry.

My favorite holiday is… Thanksgiving because the whole family comes together, there’s no pressure for gift giving, the food is amazing, and it comes at a beautiful time of the year. I love fall!
