BREAKING NEWS OUT OF SOUTH KOREA

Reports indicate that the feuding countries, North and South Korea could be on the verge of signing a peace treaty. According to the South Korean Newspaper, Munhwa Ilbo, a South Korean official has stated that North and South Korean officials are working in conjunction to draft a document that would officially bring an end to the Korean War.

The start of the Korean War dates back to June,1950 when the Korean People’s Army marched into the South after the Republic of Korea reportedly provoked the KPA. All out war ensued and raged on for three years. In the process the United States, China, and the Soviet Union became more and more involved. Eventually, the countries agreed to The Korean Armistice Agreement that stopped fighting and created the demilitarized zone, but did not declare peace between the countries.

Fast forward to today. Sixty-eight years later. Finally a breakthrough. The countries are communicating again, having meetings with each other, opening lines of communication, holding meetings with each other, and even promising the possibility of denuclearization. For the first time in a long time, there is the hope of peace in the Korean Peninsula. For the first time in a long time there is the hope of an end to this decades long conflict and long held tension.

If this treaty is signed it could be world changing. It would change the entire dynamic of the national security of multiple countries including the United States. It would also likely impact trade between North Korea and other countries, as well as North Korea’s participation in international events. Most importantly, it could possibly eliminate one of the most prominent threats to the international community.
