This past Friday, Ms. Rogalcheck took her group of Honors English III students to the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia to see Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol live. A team of actors and actresses portray multiple standpoints from the Victorian era, giving our 11th graders insight into British Literature  Not to mention, the heartwarming message of the true meaning of Christmas.

Ms. Rogalcheck explained why the trip is relevant to the students. .

“Our curriculum dictates British Literature, so this is a great opportunity for us to talk about the Victorian period along with the industrial revolution and its effects on literature.”

There was a new level of intensity to be observed by the students, which was meant to expand their knowledge of British Literature. Many grew up in the generation of Disney’s animated A Christmas Carol.

Brad Caldwell enjoyed the show.

“After seeing the Disney movie I saw the differences and similarities,” he said. “I very much enjoyed the play even though some thought it was boring, I genuinely liked it.”

Students also visited the Reading Terminal Market, where over 100 merchants sell varieties of delicious food. The fifteen minute walk was worth every hot double decker burger, or sweet cream filled doughnut. Teachers and students scoured the market trying delicious food, not to mention all of the unique shops filled with market traditions that cannot be found anywhere else.

“I really liked the food after the show. I ate amazing chicken fingers and a large fry,” said junior Frank Damico. “It was one of the greatest experiences ever.”
