Boys Tennis wins Group 3 Title, Lancetta earns 100 wins

There have been a lot of talented athletes to play on the Blue Devils tennis team, but it is unlikely they had the chemistry of the 2014 team.  For the first time in Hammonton’s history, they won the sectional boys championship, defeating Mainland in the finals. The game came down to senior Pete Lancetta’s singles match-up against rival Ethan Fischer.

Regrettably, the team lost their bid in the semi-finals of States, but that didn’t dampen the players’ spirits when they reflected on the season.

“We lost in the semi finals of states, but we still set history at this school and that’s something to keep your head high about,” said Lancetta.

Lancetta earned his 100th career win in a match against Buena on May 29.

” Our school has never won a Group 3 Championship before,” explain senior player Mike Seligman. “Marcus Mitchell and Stevie Salvatore won the conference for doubles and that’s good. I’m happy cause I’m glad I’m part of the team that won the championship.”

Seligman and Lancetta will continue playing tennis at the college level for West Chester University.
