ECEC celebrate accomplishment with Disney Day

The students at Hammonton’s ECEC celebrated their a thousand acts of kindness with a Disney Day at school on May 20, 2016.

Pre-K, kindergarten, and first grade students had a challenge: to complete one thousand acts of kindness. Once they achieved that, their reward resulted in their Disney Day. The school was decked out in posters and colorful pictures of various Disney films and characters celebrating their accomplishment. Students also wore their own Disney shirts, hats, and there were even some princesses in their dresses.

The 1000 Acts of Kindness Challenge is a movement that encourages children and adults to end hate by spreading kindness.

The challenge started in London, Ontario, with just one small town. “People living in London and surrounding communities were issued a challenge: to work together to end hate by completing at least 1,000 acts of kindness in one month, from October 1 to October 31,” states the 1000 Acts of Kindness website, “In just 31 days, thousands of people completed 52,115 acts of kindness and changed thousands of lives in the process!”

The 1,000 Acts of Kindness reminds students and adults that no matter how small an act, we have to power to create a positive atmosphere, anytime, anywhere.

Students from the high school did something even better. They volunteered to help congratulate the students from ECEC by dressing up as various Disney Characters. National Honor Society and some other volunteers walked from the high school to the ECEC building during the lunch periods to congratulate them.

“They were thrilled to to able to meet all the Disney princesses and other characters from the Disney films,” Ms. Doughty, adviser of NHS, said, “They greeted them with hugs and took pictures with them, and they were very happy.”

Junior Gemma Giralo, who dressed up as Anna from Frozen, explains that the students at ECEC weren’t the only ones having fun.

“There was this little girl who had the necklace of the character I was dressed as, and she thought I was actually the character, and she were just so sweet, and excited to see us…and being able to share that with them was a great experience.”
