Unsolved murder cases and mysteries are the total rage at the moment. Shows like The Making of a Murderer, Unsolved Mysteries, and and podcast series Serial are catching many peoples attention lately. Emily Shire stated in an article, “When something disappears in modern times, it’s uncanny. This is the age of satellites and radars and Google Earth, of cellphone cameras (and cellphone towers) and IP addresses. It’s almost impossible not to leave a data trail these days.” The Malaysia Airline Flight 370 that went off the grid en route to Beijing in 2014 relates to what Emily wrote. With many conspiracy theories surrounding it, debris from the aircraft was found on the beaches on Mozambique, located in South Africa. The reason for the flight disappearing off the radar is still unknown and as for the passengers, it is said that they’re still alive and held captives.

Recently, I have been watching Buzzfeed unsolved mystery videos and began wondering the real source to what caused the events to occur. There are numerous amounts of deaths and murders that cannot be explain. In their video The Bizarre Death of Elisa Lam, Elisa was found face up floating in a water tank which was located on top of Hotel Cecil, were she was staying. Her death was stated as accidental drowning with a bipolar disorder as a significant factor. Although, it is still unknown as to how she manage to get to the roof and lift the lid to the water tank on her own. Cases like these make up a big part of the news media. According to Dr. Montell, ” we have been fascinated with the conflict between good and evil since the beginning of time … our fascination with crime is equaled by our fear of crime.”

Not only are we obsessed between the good and evil but the suspense that we feed off of is what keeps us attached to the story. Also, its the fact that these crimes are unsolved and we are yearning for the truth. So we investigate as much as we can and look into conspiracies. After knowing the stories and all the comes from it we hope nothing for the truth.
