Youll Fall for The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green was released in 2012 and was an immediate hit when it came out.  It instantly rose to the bestseller list making its way onto the bookshelves of millions around the nation and now it’s making its way to the box office.

The story revolves around a  16 year old girl girl by the name of Hazel Grace Lancaster who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at a young age.  Hazel’s mother forces her to attend a cancer support group where she catches the eye of 17 year old Augustus Waters who had cancer but is in remission. August attended the support group with his friend Issac. From the minute Hazel sees Augustus, she is instantly drawn to him. Maybe it’s his mesmerizing blue eyes, maybe it’s his confidence, all Hazel knows is that theres something special about him.. Augustus invites her over to hangout and watch a movie. They talk about their cancer story and decide to exchange their favorite books, Augustus gives Hazel The Price of Dawn and Hazel recommends An Imperial Affliction by Peter Van Houten to Augustus. An Imperial Affliction is Hazel’s favorite book because it’s the only account of living with cancer that has related to her cancer experience. She explains to Augustus that the book doesn’t really have an ending which gives the reader no closure since they never find out the fate of the characters in the book. She complains that the author wrote the ooh and then fled to Amsterdam, never answering any fan mail or writing a sequel to the book. Augustus and Hazel continue to become closer and hang out. A week after they discuss An Imperial Affliction Augustus has great news for Hazel: he was able to get in contact with Peters assistant Lidewij who connected him to Peter. Augustus shares the email with Hazel and she makes a list of questions relating to novel that Augustus sends to Peter Van Houten. When Peter responds to the email and tells Hazel that he can only answer her questions and to feel free to visit I’m if she is ever in Amsterdam.

Shortly after the emails with Peter are exchanged Augustus take Hazel on a Dutch themed picnic where he reveals that through the make a wish foundation he was given a trip to Amsterdam to visit Peter with Hazel. She’s thrilled to be going to Amsterdam and extremely grateful but for some reason when Augustus touches her face she feel hesitant. She has deep feelings for Augustus but she knows that with her condition she will end up hurting him. After some thinking Hazel’s parents and doctors decide that she is stable enough to go on the trip and off she goes with Augustus to Amsterdam.  The trip quickly turns into a romantic vacation where Hazel and Augustus’s feeling for each other become clear. The main purpose for the trip was to visit Peter Van Houten and the trip is very interesting to say the least and Peter is nothing like Augustus and Hazel imagined. once their romantic trip is over, Hazel and Augustus return home and continue to get closer and closer falling in love with each other even more as each day passes. Suddenly Hazel and Augustus receive devastating news that will alter both of their lives forever. Want to find out what the news is?

The Fault inOur Stars came out in theaters on June 6th and I highly recommend reading the book before the movie release. You won’t be able to put it down.

In the novel Hazel and Augusts are an unlikely pair. Hazel is not very optimistic and would rather prefer to sit at home and watch Americas Next Top Model while Augustus is always trying to look on the bright side and loves a good adventure. While Hazel and Augustus might be an unlikely pair theres no denying that most readers dream of having a relationship like theirs. Both Hazel and Augustus are relatable characters and and make for an interesting read that will  keep you glued to the book. Hazel is being played by Shailene Woodley and Augustus is being played by Ansel Elgort.

Theres a reason that The Fault in Our Stores became a best seller the minute it hit the shelves. It’s a great book. It has something for everyone to love from romance to comedy to heart touching moments. It’s a book that will appeal to all audiences and is an easy read that gets you hooked.  The movie is rated PG-13.

Overall I give this book five stars and have high hopes for the movie.
