Bad Grandpa Kills Audience With Humor

Bad Grandpa

Bad Grandpa

After recently seeing ‘Bad Grandpa,’ I could say it was easily one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. This is a comedy-packed movie that was about an 86- year-old grandfather and his 8-year-old grandson traveling down south and all their comic stops on the way.

Bad Grandpa is presented by the creators of Jacka** and is filled with a well known actor along with some new talent. Johnny Knoxville stars in this comedy as Irving Zisman, the 86-year-old grandpa, and Jackson Nicoll plays Irving’s estranged grandson.  In the beginning of the movie, Irving Zisman deals with the death of his wife in a different way than most would mourn a loss of a loved one. At the same time, his grandson Billy becomes all alone when his mother is sent back to jail. Unwilling to change his lifestyle and take responsibility of his grandson, Irving wants to drive Billy to North Carolina handing the responsibilities to his dad. The two of them travel all the way from Nebraska to North Carolina so Irving can hand his grandson over to his father, but on their journey feelings seem to change. This journey brings more than just unexpected laughs and craziness.

The acting done by Johnny Knoxville is by far the most comic and well-acted performance. As Irving, he is obsessed with freedom and clearly is not the family type. Knoxville does a fantastic job acting as someone who is about three times his age and creating comic outbursts left and right. Jackson Nicoll plays Irving’s 8 year old grandson, Billy, who is handed off to his grandpa because his mother is going to jail. Billy perfectly demonstrates the feelings of a normal young boy that wants to be close to his grandpa. Also, this young actor brings to life certain times when Irving and Billy are out on outrageous adventures. Another character that was presented in this movie was Greg Harris who plays Chuck. Chuck is Billy’s unfit and unloving dad who sees Billy as nothing more than a meal ticket. This actor does a good job portraying the characteristics that a man that doesn’t want responsibility would have. Other than these 3 characters the movie shows many real life people that did not know they were being filmed for a movie.

In my opinion, ‘Bad Grandpa’ is one movie that will make it hard for you to catch your breath. It was absolutely hilarious and each scene contained something comical. As the movie progressed. each scene began more and more funny. One hilarious scene occurs near the end when Irving wants to get some extra money and enters his grandson into a pageant as a girl, even putting him in a bikini.  However, by the pageant’s conclusion, the wig comes off, and the two of them run out.  Some downfalls that I would say this movie had was that some of the scenes were blurry because of the location of cameras. Another humorous element to the movie was that many of the people that appeared in it where completely unaware that they were being filmed for a movie. They were not real actors; they were just normal people getting filmed without any knowledge of it happening.

The message that I took from this movie was that family is the most important thing, and in the end the ones that love you the most will always be there for you. Also, that laughter and jokes are the key to happiness in life.

When recommending this movie, I would suggest this outrageous type of movie to people above the age of 13 and to people that are comfortable with adult language. I do not suggest this movie to any people under the age of 13 because it contains content that may be deemed inappropriate.

I would give this movie 7 out of 10 Devils.
